When we bought our first few Apple Trees many years ago, we just went to a local Garden Centre and chose the best compromise between what we wanted and what they had available. Fortunately, they had a good selection, but nothing like as comprehensive as some we have found more recently.
Top of the list has to be Adam’s Apples, of Egremont Barn, Payhembury, Honiton, Devon, EX14 3JA. (01404) 841166. They have a great selection, especially of Apples, and very good prices! All the details are on their website at http://www.adamsappletrees.co.uk . We have ordered a few trees from them since 2003, including some replacements in 2013 - and we expect to be back for more!
Thornhayes Nursery Ltd, of St Andrews Wood, Dulford, Cullompton, Devon, EX15 2DF. (01884 266746) have a wide range of fruit trees, as well as ornamentals and others. Again their website is worth a look at www.thornhayes-nursery.co.uk
We always used to recommend Scotts Nurseries of Merriott, Somerset, which was a long-established firm and their catalogue was like a textbook in itself! Sadly, the nursery closed following the death of the manager, but . . .
. . . the nearby Ashridge Trees contacted us to say that they bought in some of Scotts’ stock, and their website is also well worth checking - a really impressive range of trees and lots of helpful advice. We are pleased with the trees we have bought from them in 2014 and 2018.
Ken Muir Ltd at Rectory Road, Weeley Heath, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, CO16 9BJ (0870) 7479111) are a well-known national firm with a good range, and we bought soft fruit bushes from them several years ago and two fruit trees in 2014. www.kenmuir.co.uk
